The contractor industry has been steadily growing for some time, and now freelancers, contractors and the self-employed make up 15% of the UK’s workforce.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) recently released its report ‘Trends in self-employment in the UK: 2001 to 2015’ which points out the growth of the contractor industry over the last several years.
The ONS reports that the number of contractors in the UK grew from 3.8 million in 2008 to 4.6 million in 2015. This group is made up of part-time and full-time contractors.
There are a large number of part-time and full-time contractors in the financial and business activities sector according to the ONS. It’s also worth noting that full-time self-employed workers in construction make up almost 25% of all full-time contractors in the UK.
As shown by the latest report on trends in self-employment in the UK, contracting is becoming the choice career move for more and more employees each year.
