Having undergone a thorough compliance review, both Churchill Knight & Associates Ltd and Churchill Knight Umbrella have successfully proven they remain fully compliant with UK tax law and associated regulations. As a result, both companies retain their FCSA membership for another year. Keep reading to find out more about the FCSA, and why passing the annual compliance review is something we’re celebrating.
About the FCSA
The FCSA is the UK’s most recognised and respected professional body dedicated to ensuring the supply chain of temporary workers is compliant with UK tax law. To achieve and retain FCSA accreditation, payroll providers are examined head to toe. Every internal procedure must be above board and in line with HMRC’s rules and regulations.
While most payroll providers in the UK are compliant, some are preying on recruiters and are encouraging them to promote tax avoidance schemes to their candidates. Not only are these dangerous to get involved with from an agency’s perspective, but they’re also ruining the lives of temporary workers – many who engaged with unethical schemes accidentally or against their will.
To achieve FCSA accreditation, independent auditors will leave no stone left unturned when reviewing an accountant or umbrella company. Therefore, choosing an FCSA accredited provider to add to your recruitment agency’s preferred supplier list (PSL) is a great idea. Not only do you know that a provider is compliant (because experts have audited them), but it’ll save you the hassle and associated costs of having to run your internal compliance audits.

Compliance and knowledge is critical
Legislation affecting the recruitment industry and temporary labour is frequently changing. For example, last month, we had the rollout of changes to off-payroll in the private sector – one of the most significant developments to IR35 legislation since its introduction in 2000. As an FCSA accredited provider of accountancy and umbrella payroll, not only are we committed to compliance, but we’re dedicated to sharing our knowledge with our partners, clients and umbrella employees. Every stakeholder in the supply chain of temporary workers has a mindblowing amount of information to take on board, including legislation, payroll, upcoming changes, compliance – to name a few.
Everyone at Churchill Knight makes it their priority to share their knowledge and to provide guidance. If you represent a recruitment agency and would like support with IR35 assessments, we’ve recently partnered with one of the most established providers of IR35 software (IR35 status tool) – and we’d be delighted to share it with you. If, on the other hand, you would like a member of Churchill Knight to provide a free training webinar to discuss any topics affecting the recruitment sector – we’d be happy to get a date in the diary.
“FCSA accreditation is an industry-recognised statement that Churchill Knight will not stand for misconduct within our sector”
Ciaran Woodcock, Head of Marketing & Field Sales at Churchill Knight, said:
“Everyone at Churchill Knight is delighted to have successfully passed our annual FCSA compliance review. It’s no secret that FCSA membership is essential because there is no better way to showcase our commitment to compliance within our sector.
We work closely with hundreds of recruitment agencies – many of whom value our dedication to compliance and fully respect our FCSA accreditation. After all, FCSA accreditation is essentially a seal of approval for ethical recruitment professionals looking to refer candidates to dependable accountants and payroll providers.
It has always frustrated me how many unethical tax avoidance schemes and disguised remuneration arrangements target vulnerable temporary workers. It simply isn’t fair. For example, mini umbrella company fraud has recently been in the spotlight again. This is why I genuinely believe FCSA accreditation is so valuable – because the entire supply chain knows that any company that has it ensures compliance is their number one priority. Recruiters can refer knowing their candidates are in the safest hands, and temporary workers get paid knowing they’ll never face a tax investigation by HMRC in the future. In a world where companies are profiting by facilitating tax avoidance, FCSA accreditation is an industry-recognised statement that Churchill Knight will not stand for misconduct from businesses in our sector.”
