Switching from another umbrella company is easy!
If you are unhappy with your current umbrella company or would like to take advantage of the benefits available to contractors using Churchill Knight Umbrella, switching to us is simple and will only take a few minutes.
Continue reading, as we’ll provide a short overview of the steps involved when switching umbrella companies. If you are ready to switch and would like to start the registration process, please call our Sales Consultants on 01707 871622.
When should you consider changing umbrella companies?
There are plenty of reasons you may decide to switch umbrella companies, with the most common being:
- You are not satisfied with the service your current umbrella company provides.
- You suspect the umbrella company is non-compliant, operating unethically, or not paying you as per UK tax law (possibly operating as a tax avoidance scheme).
- The umbrella company has been assigned a Scheme Reference Number (SRN) and is under investigation by the government.
- The umbrella company margin has recently increased or is higher than that of other compliant umbrella companies.
- The umbrella company does not include any extras you could benefit from, such as salary sacrifice, comprehensive insurance, or an employee rewards scheme.
- Your recruitment agency or end client has asked you to use an umbrella company on their Preferred Supplier List (PSL).
Always choose a compliant umbrella company
With thousands of umbrella companies in the UK, there are plenty of providers to choose from. To make your decision easier, we highly recommend only considering and using umbrella companies accredited by the Freelancer and Contractor Services Association (FCSA) and SafeRec.
The FCSA is a professional body dedicated to ensuring the supply chain of temporary workers is compliant with UK tax law. For an umbrella company to be accredited by the FCSA, they must prove all processes are above board and operating compliantly and ethically. A list of FCSA-accredited umbrella companies is available on the FCSA’s website.
SafeRec is a leading compliance and technology company that, using AI, audits umbrella companies to ensure there are no signs of malpractice. Every payslip generated by a SafeRec Certified umbrella company is audited at source, in real-time, and all payments are individually cross-referenced with RTI sent to HMRC. If SafeRec finds any discrepancies or signs of malpractice regarding how the umbrella company pays the contractor, it will be flagged in the audit report sent to the individual. A list of SafeRec Certified umbrella companies is available on SafeRec’s website.
By using a SafeRec Certified or FCSA accredited umbrella company, you can operate with complete peace of mind that the umbrella company you are using is compliant and that you will be paid according to UK tax law.
How do I switch umbrella companies?
Once you have chosen which compliant umbrella company you would like to switch to, you will need to register and provide the required documents to become an employee of your chosen provider. If you want to switch to Churchill Knight Umbrella, please call 01707 871622 or email enquiry@churchill-knight.co.uk. If you prefer, you can also complete our registration form online. This is straightforward and will not take you long.
We will then contact your recruitment agency or end client and let them know about your desire to switch to Churchill Knight Umbrella. Meanwhile, you must speak with your current umbrella company and inform them about your decision to leave their services. You may need to serve a minimum leaving period; please check the details in your contract. Once you have received your final payment from your current umbrella company, it is important to ask for your P45, as you will need to give this to your new umbrella company.
Once every party is aware of the upcoming changes, you may be required to upload a weekly/monthly timesheet via the Churchill Knight Umbrella online portal. Please note that this will depend on your recruitment agency or end client’s requirements. If you are unsure whether you need to submit a timesheet, please get in touch with our Umbrella Payroll department.
There are absolutely no joining or leaving fees when signing up and using Churchill Knight Umbrella. You will be in the hands of industry experts dedicated to providing you with an incomparably high level of service.
